Redo of “The Wolf and the Crane”. Watercolour and gouache.
“A WOLF who had a bone stuck in his throat hired a Crane, for a large sum, to put her head into his mouth and draw out the bone. When the Crane had extracted the bone and demanded the promised payment, the Wolf, grinning and grinding his teeth, exclaimed: “Why, you have surely already had a sufficient recompense, in having been permitted to draw out your head in safety from the mouth and jaws of a wolf.”
In serving the wicked, expect no reward, and be thankful if you escape injury for your pains.” - Aesop

I really fucking hate this story. It’s just the same as the other fable with the farmer who saves a snake from freezing to death only to have the snake bite the farmer and kill him. It implies that not everyone deserves kindness, and that’s contrary to everything I believe.

Anyone can be kind to someone who is kind back. But just because someone is ungrateful or even responds by lashing out, doesn’t mean they don’t need kindness. Sometimes they’re the ones who need kindness the most.
cf. Jean Valjean
(That’s what grace is - undeserved favour. And without grace, the world is a dark and horrible place.)

Les Miserables is practically the opposite of these fables, haha. :)

Hey guys! As with most of Aesop’s fables, they are usually a cautionary tale. The case is true of this one. As I interpret it, it’s not saying that “not everyone deserves kindness” but that not everyone is capable of giving it, and that you should be wary when helping those types of people. I hope that clears it up! :)

Abortion seems to be the only medical procedure that people want to deny you based on how you got in that situation.

Drove drunk, got in an accident and need an organ transplant? No problem.

Messing around with a gun, accidentally shoot yourself in the leg and need surgery? Of course.

Smoke tobacco for most of your life and need treatment for lung cancer? Yep.

Climb a tree, fall out and break your leg? We’ll fix that right up.

Have sex and get pregnant when you don’t want to be? YOU GOT YOURSELF INTO THIS SITUATION AND YOU DESERVE NO MEDICAL HELP OR COMPASSION! THIS IS YOUR FAULT AND YOU WILL DEAL WITH THE CONSEQUENCES!
